Bhagavad Gita Chapter 8 - Imperishable Brahman

The theme of the chapter is – As You Think So You Become. If the goal is worldly, you remain caught in the vagaries of the world. However, if you invest your thoughts in the Spirit you break free from the cycle of birth and death to merge into Brahman.
Krsna offers three options to humanity – the path of return, non-return and direct liberation. If you perform desire-driven noble actions, you go to heaven after death to enjoy the fruits of your goodness. Once this punya (merit) is exhausted, you return to the mortal world. If you aspire for Realisation but stray into desire-driven good actions you get liberation in phases. You go to heaven, enjoy the heavenly pleasures and then proceed to the fourth plane of Consciousness.
But the true yogi who sees the limitations of these paths rises above them and pursues direct liberation – here and now.
